The Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle mourns the passing of Shimon Peres, z”l – a man of vision, moral leadership and peace. His dedication, courage and wisdom were indispensable to bringing to fruition the dream of Israel as the strong and vibrant homeland of the Jewish people.
As a member of Israel’s iron-willed founding generation, Peres devoted his entire adult life in service to Israel and Jewish peoplehood – building the fledgling state at the side of David Ben-Gurion, strengthening Israel’s defenses while the young country grew and developed, bringing his incomparable leadership to every important national office, and giving a clear, unyielding voice to the pursuit of peace. Peres was not only dedicated to Israel, but also a strong ally, friend and leader to Jews worldwide.
Peres was a humanitarian force for good unlike few other leaders of our time. His dedication to Israel, his commitment to a vision of strength and peace and his tireless work are a model for us all. He will be deeply missed. We send our condolences to his children, Dr. Zvia Walden, Yoni Peres, and Chemi Peres, his eight grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. May the memory of Shimon Peres be a blessing.
