Prof. Herf, professor of history at the University of Maryland, is the author of "Undeclared Wars with Israel: East Germany and the West German Far Left, 1967-1989." The book examines the spectrum of antagonism toward Israel by the East German government and radical leftist organizations from 1967 until the Cold War's end in 1989.
