RIVY POUPKO KLETENIK WINS NATIONAL COVENANT AWARD
Each year the Covenant Foundation honors three outstanding Jewish educators from all over the North American continent with the prestigious Covenant Award for Exceptional Jewish Educators. Rivy Poupko Kletenik  joined the ranks of the chosen few last week in Philadelphia as she received this year's award. Rivy is much more to our community than an unbelievable educator: not only does she teach a broad spectrum of the Jewish community as a member of the faculties of Limmud NW Community Program for Adult Jewish Studies, Midrasha, the Community High School for Jewish Studies, Northwest Yeshiva High School, and the Jewish Teachers Certification Program... and there is so much more!

LECTURE ON HITLER SEEKS TO UNDERSTAND VIOLENCE AND TYRANNY IN TODAY'S WORLD

Dorpat, author of the recently published book "Wounded Monster: Adolf Hitler's Path from Trauma to Malevolence," will speak at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 5, at Kane Hall on the campus of the University of Washington. Dr. Dorpat's ideas and insights, derived from more than 40 years of experience in research and practice as a psychiatrist and psychoanalyst, will suggest answers to the questions so many Americans are asking about acts of terrorism today. HONORING OUR TEACHERS: TELLING OUR STORIES
"What we need more than anything else is not textbooks but textpeople. It is the personality of the teacher which is the text that the pupils read; the text that they will never forget." (A.J. Heschel) Telling our teachers' stories is one way to honor our teachers. Telling stories is a Jewish thing to do. Jewish Education Council chair Robin Boehler has appointed Tina Novick to head a committee that will develop programs to honor Jewish teachers.
