THE SPECIAL INITIATIVES FUND
Grant Applications for 2005
OVERVIEW

The Jewish Community Endowment Fund of the Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle is again soliciting applications for grants. Last year, the Special Initiatives Fund was able to fund $25,000 of these requests.

This year, we expect $65,000 to be available for grants from the Special Initiatives Fund. These are exclusive funds that already have been committed to this process. While we have only a limited amount of grant money to award, submissions of your eligible grant request to the Special Initiatives Fund will expose it, as well, to the much greater giving potential of our endowment donors.

This year, in an effort to reduce the cost of implementing this program, our donor advised fund holders and Supporting Foundation donors will be invited to view grant proposals on-line, though the Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle’s web site. If our donors do not have access to the web and/ or would rather have a packet from us with the grant applications, those will be made available to them. By utilizing technology in this way, more funds ideally will be available to distribute.

The Special Initiatives Fund’s purpose is to fund new and innovative projects, including pilot projects and emergency needs. The Grants Committee will reject proposals to finance regular operating costs or capital costs that are not incidental to an otherwise eligible project, and proposals to finance recycled or repackaged programs.

In order to apply for a grant, please refer to the Policy Statement and Guidelines for Grant Proposal included with this mailing before initiating the process of seeking funds. Please follow instructions carefully. Grant proposals which do not meet our Policy Statement and Guidelines for Proposals will not be accepted.

Your organization may submit no more than two (2) proposals.

Because this year we will be posting your application on line, we’ll need you to e-mail us a copy of your completed proposal to Dayna Klein at daynak@jewishinseattle.org. Please send 2 additional hard copies to:

Dayna Klein, Director of Major Gifts
Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle
2031 Third Avenue
Seattle, WA 98121

The deadline for submissions is August 15th , 2005. In fairness to all applicants that meet submission deadlines, we cannot accept late submissions.

Endowment Fund staff and volunteers will review the materials and distribute final proposals to the donors and the Grants Committee for consideration. The Grants Committee is expected to complete its allocation review process in November of 2005. The Endowed, Planned and Major Gift Subcommittee of the Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle’s as well as the Board of Directors of the Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle will then vote on the Committee’s recommendations.

Agencies will be notified of the results of the process and awards no later than January 31, 2006.

If you have any questions or need any assistance, please call Dayna Klein at the Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle at (206) 774-2220. We look forward to working with you in the coming months!
