About the Garmo Scholarship
The George and Frances Garmo Memorial Scholarship was established to honor the
memory of George and Frances Garmo, lifetime residents of Bellingham, Washington.
Mr. Garmo was a devoted Jew, a student of Torah, and a supporter
of Eretz Israel. He earned degrees in both education and horticulture with a
minor in engineering. Throughout his lifetime he maintained an ongoing interest
in education. He was imbued with a love of Israel and had a special interest
in, and knowledge of, the flora and fauna of Israel. Frances shared these ideals
in equal measure.
Because of the Garmos' love and devotion to Israel and their ongoing
quest for knowledge, the benefactors of this perpetual scholarship felt that
an Israel University scholarship would be an appropriate way to honor the memory
of these loyal and devoted friends.
