Hebrew High - Policies and Procedures
ATTENDANCE
Regular and punctual attendance is extremely important and attendance
is taken at each class. Classes are more enjoyable and meaningful for
teachers and students when attendance is consistent. There are no distinctions
between excused and unexcused absences - please plan accordingly.
Students who miss four or more classes will receive an "Incomplete" for
the course.
Students who miss three classes will be able to do make-up
work and receive a "Pass" for the course.
Students should contact
their teachers for their class make-up assignments.
While we recognize
that students have busy schedules, please realize that when you arrive
late, you cause substantial disruptions to the
class. Out of respect to teachers and fellow-students, students are
expected
to arrive at class on time.
GRADES
There are three grades a student can earn:
• PASS - satisfactory attendance in a non-Honors class.
• PASS with DISTINCTION - satisfactory attendance and completion of extra
work in a non-Honors class.
• PASS with HONORS - satisfactory attendance and completion of required
work in an HONORS class.
CHOOSING YOUR CLASSES
Almost all classes at Hebrew High are electives,
which means that you can chose what you want to study, when you want
to study and with whom.
Our teachers are an amazingly diverse group with
expertise in a variety
of topics and who teach in many different ways. We recommend that you
take advantage of ALL Hebrew High has to offer and get to know as many
of our teachers as you can and learn as many different subjects as you
can.
General topics offered in any given trimester usually include
the Bible and other Jewish texts, Jewish History, Holocaust History,
Ethics,
Israel,
Hebrew, Social Justice and the Arts. As you navigate your way through
Hebrew High we recommend that you take at least one course on each topic
before you graduate--so that you have a well-rounded experience and are
introduced to the many possibilities within the world of Jewish education.
HONORS
CLASSES
Honors Classes require a bit of extra work but result in
a huge increase in learning. Two to three honors classes are offered
every trimester.
To graduate with honors, a student must successfully complete eight honors
courses over their four years at CHSJS. If a student currently has honors
credits, they will apply towards graduation.
SECURITY - EARLY RELEASE
CHSJS students are not permitted to leave the JCC building
for the duration of classes -- 7-9:15pm without written consent or prior
notification
from a parent or guardian. Skipping class and leaving the JCC grounds
are considered serious infractions of our security policy.
SECURITY -
DRIVING
Students who drive to CHSJS are expected to drive directly
to the school and remain there until the end of the evening at 9:15pm.
The CHSJS faculty
does not patrol the roadways or the parking lot. We rely on trust and
communication between students, parents and faculty for the successful
implementation of this policy. Students are expected to use common sense,
obey the law, and maintain the trust given them by their parents and
the faculty.
JCC FACILITIES
Students are not permitted to use the gym,
pool or any JCC facilities during Hebrew High, even if you are a JCC
member and even during the
break. Other than classrooms, the JCC is off-limits.
FOOD
CHSJS is a community program. We
make every effort to respect all sectors of the community and levels
of observance. Kashrut (dietary laws) are
observed at the school; therefore students may not bring any food into
the JCC. A kosher snack, and sometimes a class-prepared treat, will be
provided.
POLICIES & PROCEDURES
Please help us ensure the safety of our students. When students leave
the JCC premises, we can no longer be responsible for them. Our goal
is to enable all of our students to learn in a safe environment.
