Mike D. Walter
Mike D. Walter has taught Jewish Studies for 5 years in Religious Schools
across the country, with special emphasis on history, mysticism and
folklore. With an MFA in Creative Writing, Mike has a passion for the
Literary Arts and brings this creative energy into every class he teaches,
inspiring his students to think outside of the box.
Irit Eliav
Irit Eliav, MSW, is the Director of Education at Congregation Beth Shalom.
This is her ninth year teaching at Hebrew High and she still loves
every minute of it! Irit is the author of Yad B'Yad: Working Hand in
Hand to Create Healthy Relationships and co-editor of A Journey towards
Freedom: a Haggadah for Women Who Have Experienced Domestic Violence.
During her four years as a Community Advocate at the Eastside Domestic
Violence Program in Bellevue, WA, Irit provided advocacy, education,
and support for victims of domestic violence.
Bob Herschkowitz
Bob has a MS in Mechanical Engineering and a MA in Naval History and
International Relations. He works as a Boeing aerospace engineer and
retired from both the Belgian Navy and also as a Commander from the
US Naval Reserve. He works as a volunteer crime analyst for the Bellevue
Police Department. He has taught Jewish history for the last twenty
five years. Bob is a child survivor from Antwerp, Belgium and currently
serves as a board member of the Washington State Holocaust Education
Resource Center.
Rabbi Yechezkel Kornfeld
Rabbi Kornfeld is the rabbi at Congregation Shevet Achim on Mercer Island
and has taught at Hebrew High for many years. He also teaches at the
Chabad Cheder. Rabbi Kornfeld is a winner of the Samis Excellence in
Education Teaching Award and a master educator for the Text by Ten
program of the JEC.
Moti Krauthamer
Moti returned to Hebrew High four years ago after a two year stint of
covering the fashion news of New York and working on several independent
films. Moti is the co-host of Seattle's Jewish talk radio show, “Shmooze
Radio” on KKOL 1300 AM. His background includes working for news
organizations such as CNN, BBC, Reuters, and locally for KIRO TV. He
has been awarded the United Nations outstanding leadership award for
visionary leadership and won an EMMY award for his work on a documentary
about affordable housing. Moti lived in Israel for 10 years and served
in the IDF.
Dr. Lara Litov
Dr. Lara Litov is a Naturopathic physician in practice over 15 years.
A Northwest native, her world travels have taken her from bio-dynamic
farms in New Zealand to the only remaining synagogue in Indonesia.
Her background is diverse and she has lived and practiced on the rugged
coast of Maine, rural Washington and inner-city Baltimore. She currently
lives in Bellevue with her children Noah and Aviv, her spouse Tzachi
and their dog Marley.
Rabbi Yona Margolese
Rabbi Yona has been teaching at Hebrew High for the past seven years
as well as at Northwest Yeshiva High School. In the past he has run
NCSY and JSU in Seattle. He lives in Seward Park with his wife, Ariella
and three children - Aliza, Tali and Yosef.
Amy Hilzman-Paquette
Amy is the Principal of the Community High School of Jewish Studies.
She is in her third year at the Jewish Education Council and she loves
her work with Jewish teens. Her heroes are the teachers at Hebrew High.
When Amy is not at work she is spending time with her daughter, Adina,
and her two cats, Winston and Churchill, and her husband, Dan.
Benjamina Menashe
Benjamina returns to teach her eighth year at Hebrew High. She has her
B.A. from UCLA, an M.A. in Public Administration from the UW and spent
a year studying in Jerusalem at Pardes Institute. She lives in Seward
Park with her husband and four children.
Robin Nider
Robin is thrilled to be back in the Pacific Northwest working with Evergreen
Region BBYO in a dual role as their Regional Program Associate and
Seattle City Director. As if that isn't enough work, Robin is also
in the process of earning her MBA at Indiana University and her Certificate
of Informal Jewish Education from Hebrew College through BBYO's PDI
program. Robin graduated from Western Washington University in 2007
where she majored in History with a concentration in Modern European
History. In her tenure at Western she served as president of the local
Hillel and coordinated many communal Jewish events. After college,
Robin worked for Hillel as the Soref Program Associate, helping to
enrich Jewish life on campuses with smaller Jewish populations. Robin
has a passion for the Seattle lifestyle where she can routinely be
seen wearing micro-fleece and sipping a nonfat latte
Lauren Roon
Lauren is a recent graduate of Santa Clara University in California.
She majored in Literature with an emphasis on children’s literature
and minor in art appreciation. Lauren’s favorite things are polka
dots, hanging out with her friends and is looking to the future to
earn her Master’s degree in Education. In the past, Lauren was
the President of BOTY (Beth Or Temple Youth) in Everett, Washington
and she is currently serving as Temple Beth Or’s Junior BOTY
Advisor.
Matthew Korch
Matthew Korch is a recent graduate of the Jackson School of Intentional
Studies with a degree in Jewish Studies and a minor in Political Science.
Matthew also works as a USY adviser for Seattle Nimratz and spends
his summers at Camp Solomon Schechter in Olympia. Matthew is re-joining
the Hebrew High Staff as a teacher after spending a year being the
desk guy, and spending a year as Youth Director at Congregation Beth
Shalom. Besides being heavily involved in Jew life he also enjoys Seahawk
Football, walks on the beach, and looking for a place to live.
Rabbi Elie Estrin
Rabbi Elie Estrin, born in Providence, RI, is the co-director of Chabad
at University of Washington. He collects very eclectic Jewish music,
and is more than happy to over-analyze anything. Rabbi Elie’s
Dad is the creator of “The World’s Only Kosher Comic Book”,
and Rabbi Elie occasionally wonders if he is a cartoon character himself.
Chaya Estrin
Chaya Estrin, raised in Sharon, MA, is the co-director of Chabad at University
of Washington. She has become well known on campus as the source of
the most tantalizing food ever to grace a Shabbat table, and opens
her home and kitchen to Jewish Huskies every Shabbat. She and Rabbi
Elie have three adorable children.
