Rimon Division

Young Leadership Cabinet

Introduced to the Seattle community in 1999, the Rimon Division is a nationally recognized designation for women who personally contribute $1800 or more to the Jewish Federation Community Campaign during a given year. Rimon is the Hebrew word for pomegranate. The pomegranate is significant throughout ancient Jewish literature as the symbol of the entire Torah. It is thought to contain 613 seeds, the same number as the 613 mitzvot found in the Torah. The ancient Rabbis concluded that the pomegranate, filled with beautiful red seeds, remind us that our goal is to fill ourselves with mitzvot and the study of the Torah. Givers at the Rimon level are entitled to wear a sterling silver pin in the shape of a pomegranate.

Since its introduction, the Rimon division has grown to include over 80 women. The Women's Division recently sponsored its first ever Rimon campaign event on November 6, 2002 at the Bellevue Art Museum with renowned political scientist and lecturer Dr. Ellen Cannon. This year, the Rimon Division will host a special pre-reception at the Letty Cottin Pogrebin Event on November 16, 2003.
