| What's it
like to work for the Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle? |
While several nonprofit organizations
strive to relieve suffering and promote peace abroad, and thousands work
to help people here at home, only organization in Seattle raises funds
to do both: The Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle.
For more than 75 years, the Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle has
worked to ensure Jewish survival and enhance the lives of Jewish people
locally, in Israel, and the rest of the world.
In the Seattle area, the Federation works with 40 Jewish organizations
to resettle refugees, provide affordable Jewish family counseling, offer
overnight Jewish camp scholarships to low-income youth, and educate people
about Jewish culture and history. Through its partnership with the Joint
Distribution Committee and other international organizations, the Federation
ensures that wherever Jews suffer, there are Jews who provide relief.
More than merely a funder, the Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle
is also a social incubator – turning bright ideas into action.
The Federation created the Spitzer Award to recognize youth providing
outstanding service to the community; spawned international exchanges,
such as annual youth pilgrimages to Israel; and founded education programs,
such as “Hebrew High” for teens and a Jewish Teacher Certification
program.
For Jewish people in Seattle, the Federation is a powerful magnet – attracting
and convening groups of Jewish doctors, lawyers, high-tech professionals
inter-faith couples, single people and seniors who give friendship to
each other and funds to the Jewish community.
The pillars of the Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle are its people
and purse: it has an $11 million annual budget, $28 million in assets,
a bright and competent staff of 36 professionals, and a 30-member board
of directors that includes some of the most influential civic and corporate
leaders in Seattle.
